Edel Sans – Free Web Font Review
Since web fonts are becoming more common these days I have been on the search for free, high quality fonts to use in my web projects. I will share with you all my tested and tried favorites, starting with Edel Sans.
Keep in mind Edel Sans is only free for non-commercial projects. You’ll have to contact Jakob Runge to purchase.
Initially I was looking for a good web font replacement for one of my favorite commercial typefaces, Avenir. My search resulted with Edel Sans, which I must admit I have been using in nearly every project. I can’t help it, Edel Sans is not only a crisp, clean typeface that works with a lot of projects, it just looks fantastic on screen.
Edel Sans comes in three weights: Regular, Light and Bold.
I hope you’ll agree that Edel Sans has earned a permanent spot in your web font repertoire.

Isn’t it only available for personal use only? Have you talked to its creator regarding this thing? I would also like to use it commercially, but since they don’t allow it, I can’t.
Heather… thank you for pointing that out. I haven’t contacted the creator but I will. I’m kind of bummed now because I really love this font for the web. I don’t use it for print however.
as mentioned in the font’s licence ( http://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-nc-sa/3.0/ ) no commercial usage is allowed until purchasing a licence.
… but contact jakob{at}26plus-zeichen{dot}de to get access to the updated version (more letters and a bold weight) of “Edelsans” and it’s uasge as webfont.
Thanks Jakob! I’ll be sure to update my post to note that it’s free for noncommercial projects only.
hi, this typeface is quite elegant… I have not been able to use the capital Q or &, as they are shown in the sample. Do you know if they are just not included yet?
Thank you.
